A Day in Şarköy with Good People of vitruta

The story of a journey from Istanbul to discover the soul of the vineyards and the earth at Dedeçeşme Vineyards in Şarköy.

To make the most of the last week of September, we embarked on a two-day trip with Good People of vitruta, leaving Istanbul behind and arriving at the serene vineyards of Şarköy. As you might guess from the description, it was a wonderful opportunity to escape the city, take a breath, and learn new things. How, you ask? Let us explain.

Our first stop was Dedeçeşme Vineyards. Here, we had the chance to explore the natural beauty around us while learning about the rich history of the region, its soil structure, and the effects of climate changes on viticulture.

Next, we moved on to the winery, where we delved into the intricate details of the production processes: from extracting the grape juice, to fermentation, and aging in barrels. It wouldn’t surprise anyone to say that Good People of vitruta is a community that enjoys seeing what goes on behind the scenes!

For lunch, we headed to Mahmut’s Place, where we were treated to a selection of local dishes paired perfectly with the flavors of the region. We then continued our day at Old Vine Vineyards, spending time under the shade of vines over 70 years old, learning how these ancient vines became so deeply rooted over time, all while enjoying a tasting experience.

Our program didn’t end when we returned to the hotel—dinner with Good People of vitruta introduced us to a fusion menu prepared by Chef Yaren Çarpar, blending the flavors of her hometown Antakya with those of the Trakya/Marmara region. After a delicious breakfast prepared by the chef the next morning, we set off for home. The memories we took with us from the tasting? Lots of laughter and conversation! Until the next trip!
