For the last 20 years, Pantone Color Institute has been announcing next year's trend color from the colors in its chart every December. When determining this color, different criteria such as psychology, sociology and economy are taken into consideration.
After "Classic Blue", which was chosen as the calm, peaceful and reassuring color of 2020, it determined 2 colors for 2021 for the first time and announced this dynamic duo: Ultimate Gray and Illuminating!
We know that the color of the year reflects current color trends in fashion, beauty, design and home decoration, but the message to be given by the combination of these colors chosen due to the coronavirus that entered our lives in 2020 is a little stronger this time. While serene and cheerful yellow symbolizes sunny days, new beginnings and hope despite everything, gray symbolizes patience and endurance.
PANTONE Vice President Laurie Pressman pointed out that this time the issue is about unity and solidarity, rather than a single color or a single person, and that even these two independent colors together create a strong and optimistic effect. In fact, these two color combinations, chosen based on the effects of COVID-19 on our lives, are seen as a symbol of the bonds between us and our family and friends, or more precisely, the power of human relations, collective work and staying strong without losing hope.
