Can you tell us a little about yourself?

Greetings, I am Omer. I was born in Istanbul in 1990. I am one of the partners of Aheste, a meze restaurant in Pera. I have been in the food and beverage industry for about 10 years. Since I have my dream job, I devote most of my time to this restaurant that I am passionate about. Smelling, tasting and sharing with people are some of the things I enjoy most in life. I enjoy discovering new flavors and trying different wines.

What is a pleasant day in Istanbul for you? What do you do?

For me, a pleasant day in Istanbul starts with a good coffee. If there is breakfast, I wouldn't say no :) Afterwards, I come to Aheste and chat with my colleagues about daily life and work (usually it's full of noise). Getting together with my friends in the evening and having a few drinks together is of course an indispensable part of this program, especially if it is followed by a nice dinner. In short, for me, a pleasant day in Istanbul means eating and drinking good things, doing what I love and being with the people I love.

So if we go out a bit, what's an ideal holiday for you? What are your favorite places that you have seen so far? Is there any advice you can give us about them?

I don't have a clear ideal holiday picture in my mind, but I would recommend walking the Lycian Way in Turkey. Of course, this plan should also be combined with camping. If I go abroad, Barcelona is a must for me. In addition to the energy of the city, I completely admire the Spanish and Catalan cuisines. For those going to Barcelona; I recommend that people do not return to Petit Comite without eating the foie gras puff pastry with a glass of Cava.

So, what are your must-have items when packing your suitcase for this holiday? What do you take with you?

My sunglasses and of course a list of restaurants to visit are my travel essentials.

Do you have any book/music/film recommendations that have influenced you recently?
Although I cannot say that I am a person who reads a lot of books, I really enjoyed the last book I read, The Secret Agency – Alper Canıgüz. Even though it's not a recent movie, it's one of my favorite movies; Sin City – I count it among the iconic cults with my eyes closed.

There are platforms in all of our lives these days; Netflix, Youtube, audiobooks, podcast applications... Which of these are in your life and to what extent? Maybe you would like to share your favorite channels, podcast series or favorite TV series-documentaries with us?

Spotify and Netflix are as much a part of my life as they are for most people. My favorite TV series is Mindhunter.
